Chi-Emeke Worthington enters his first season as the Co-Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator at Bethel College coming off of a National Championship win at Marian University in 2012.  Coach Worthington spent the past two seasons at Marian University as the Defensive Backs Coach in 2012 and the Corner’s Coach in 2011. During his tenure at Marian University the Knights won Back to Back MSFA Mideast League Championships in 2011 & 2012.  They were the NAIA FCS National Semifinalist in 2011 and NAIA FCS National Champions in 2012.  In 2012, Marian University led the NAIA in interceptions with 27 and was # 11 in total defense.  In 2011 Marian University had the #1 Defense in all of college football allowing 7.4 ppg.  In 2012 Coach Worthington had 5 Defensive Backs receive All-Conference Honors in the MFSA Stephen Rogers & Nathan Toon 2^nd Team All MFSA as well as Taylor Maxey, John Keevers, & Taylor Howenstine Honorable Mention.  Nathan Toon was Honored as Pre-Season All-American CB on 2012.  In 2011 under Coach Worthington’s tutelage both starting corners receive 1^st Team All-Conference Honors Eric Sheppard and Nathan Toon.

Prior to Marian University Coach Worthington spent 4 seasons at North Carolina Tech Preparatory School where he spent the last two seasons as Defensive coordinator and 3 years as Recruiting Coordinator.  In 2 seasons as Defensive Coordinator his defenses gave up 10.8 ppg. &12.2 ppg.  During his time as Recruiting Coordinator Coach Worthington recruited such players as Ed Tinker Univ. of Pittsburgh, Gerald Bowman USC, Tyler Gilbert Arkansas, Damon Julian Cincinnati, and Marquis White USF.  Over 30 student athletes went on to DIA and DIAA programs during his time as Recruiting Coordinator.

He was with the University of Iowa for 2 years and spent 2006-2007 as a recruiting assistant graduating with Master’s Degrees in Athletic Administration and Cultural Studies.

Coach Worthington spent a year as an assistant coach and teacher at Cumberland Regional High School in his home state of New Jersey.

Coach Worthington was a four year letterman at Johnson C. Smith University.  During his playing career he was named Department of Athletics Achievement Award (2001-2004), Charlotte Touchdown Club Scholarship Recipient awarded Dec. 9, 2002, Inducted into Johnson C. Smith University Honors College Program (April 2002), Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges (2004), United States Achievement Academy Collegiate Award Winner (2001), Johnson C. Smith University Football Most Improved Player (2004), CIAA Conference All-Academic Team (2003), Football Gazette All-South Region Third Team Free Safety (2003), Chancellor’s List (2004-2005). He is a graduate of Johnson C. Smith University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education.

Coach Worthington played his prep football at Overbrook Regional High School in Pine Hill, New Jersey where he was a member of the undefeated (12-0) Group IV State Champions in 1998.
