McPherson, Kan. - The Bethel College Threshers suffered a minor setback after the strong showing at Emporia when both teams traveled to McPherson College to get a preview of the course for the KCAC Cross Country Championships.
The weather and course conditions were so terrible that it disheartened everyone and set coach Allshouse into an uproar when he had seen that the course was poorly marked and filled with potholes. "There is a huge concern of safety for my athletes here and I'm worried that an ankle or two might not make it out alive on this course." recalls Allshouse.
Both the teams were on average a minute slower than they had been at Emporia. Team moral had sunk to a new low after poor performances at the Lakeside Shootout. Both teams vowed to work hard to ensure Conference did not go like this. However, there is a sense of urgency because this was the Conference course. "I'm not sure what we can do to ensure that this doesn't happen again except train hard and hope they make necessary changes to the course," said Nathan May. Both teams are looking for a rebound as they head to Southwestern and the Mid-States Invite.
