STERLING, Kan. - The Bethel women's soccer team traveled west to Sterling College this afternoon for a conference matchup. Bethel and Sterling had traded off wins and losses each of the past six years, which meant it was the Lady Threshers' destiny to win this game. They fulfilled the prophecy, as they defeated Sterling 2-0 behind goals from Sophia Minder (SO/Lawrence, Kan.), Lacey Pfannenstiel (SR/Hays, Kan.), and solid goalkeeper play from Kyla Williams (SO/Clinton, Okla.).

The Lady Threshers were out-shot by Sterling 9-3 in the first half, but in soccer it's almost about getting an opportunity. Kyla Williams did her part in keeping Sterling off the scoreboard, as she turned in four of her five saves in the first 45 minutes.

Rachel Craft (JR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Lacey Pfannenstiel were each able to get a shot off for Bethel, but both were stopped in their tracks by the Warrior goalkeeper. Bethel struck gold however in the 43rd minute, as Sophia Minder streaked downfield and sent one into the back of the net. Minder's goal was assisted by Araeleigha Heysquierdo-Marcy (SO/Salina, Kan.).

All in all, the action was a bit subsided in the second half, but the Lady Threshers still found their moments to push the attack. One such moment came in the 75th minute, as passing from Maddie McDaniel (SO/Louisburg, Kan.) and Lieacha Cook (SO/Hays, Kan.) opened up the field for Cook to send a cross in front of the goal. Lacey Pfannenstiel was there to clean it up and give Bethel the insurance goal. They would go on to win the game, 2-0.

"I'm extremely excited and proud of the way we played today," stated Head Coach Alex Hagan. "As heartbreaking as the last couple of games have been, it's nice to see the girls get the result they deserve. We will celebrate this win, but will continue to raise the bar for ourselves moving forward."

Bethel moves to 4-7 on the season, and 1-4 in conference play. They will host Kansas Wesleyan at noon on Saturday, October 14th, as they kickoff the sports side of Fall Fest.
