HILLSBORO, Kan. - The Bethel football team headed to Hillsboro last night to take on #18 Tabor College. The game was suspended midway through the first quarter due to an hour's worth of lightning delays. At the time Bethel was trailing 22-0, and unfortunately when it rains, it pours. The game reconvened earlier this afternoon, as Bethel struggled on all aspects and finished with a 53-0 loss.
The Bethel offense struggled out of the gates, and failed to pick up a first down in the entire first quarter. For the game, Bethel managed five total first downs. Tabor on the other hand, found success through the air and on the ground, as they quickly found themselves on the right end of a 22-0 ballgame with four minutes left in the first quarter. This was when the lightning rolled in, and ultimately forced the suspension of play to earlier today.
Things didn't pick up on Sunday for the Threshers. Their ground game struggled the most, as they managed 25 total rushes for -21 yards. The BlueJays defense was stifling, as they hurried plays in the backfield and kept life miserable for everyone on the offense.
Tabor's offense was fairly balanced with four rushing touchdowns and three on the ground. This attack kept Bethel on their toes, and unfortunately the Threshers couldn't find the stops needed to keep the game manageable.
Dominic Webb (SO/Wichita, Kan.) completed 10 of 24 passes for 82 yards on the day, with tight end Adrian Palmore (JR/St. Petersburg, Fla.) being his leading target with two receptions for 28 yards. Brandon Phorn (FR/Coweta, Okla.) led the Threshers ground game with 11 yards on two carries.
On the defensive side, Jariah Booker (SR/Oroville, Calif.) and Michale Bell led the Threshers with 12 and 11 total tackles, respectively. Charles Johnson (JR/Phoenix, Ariz.) tallied nine, and Carlos Dickerson (SR/Gary, Ind.) had six including a sack.
Bethel (now 0-2) hosts Bethany College on Saturday, September 23rd, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 PM.
