Julie Baker gets ready to serve, while opponent throws racket in the air
Women's Tennis - Fri, Apr. 28, 2017

TOPEKA, Kan. - It was an early start to the morning for the Bethel Women's Tennis team today. After dismal weather conditions pushed the opening round of the KCAC Championships indoors, limited space required the match vs #23 McPherson to be bumped up to 7:30 AM inside the Wood Valley Genesis Racquet Club in Topeka. After morning coffees and loud music in the van, the ladies were ready to get rolling in their 1 v 4 seeded matchup. They were able to play better than the first time these two teams met during the regular season, but McPherson was able to clinch the team victory in five straight matchups, and Bethel went home with the 5-0 loss.

The Lady Threshers were swept to open doubles play, but the pairings of Breanne Rogers (JR/Parsons, Kan.) and Mallory Meier (FR/Winfield, Kan.), and Kaci Wilson (FR/Sterling, Kan.) and Serena Wong (SO/Newton, Kan.) were able to take away a few points during play.

With McPherson only needing two more individual victories to clinch the match, most of the games were cut short as soon as it happened. The most successful Bethel player in singles was Julie Baker (JR/Valley Center, Kan.) in the #5 position, who finished the first set down 6-2 before having the match called. Wilson was also up 1-0 in the second set when time expired.
