WICHITA, Kan. - The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference released the first week of Men's Basketball Conference Players of the Week, and Deven Goodwin (SR/Chicago, Ill.) was selected as the Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Threshers two victories last Thursday and Friday. The Conference Players of the Week awards for all sports are voted on by the member institutions' Sports Information Directors.
Goodwin was the undisputed leader for the Threshers this past week. First on Thursday's season opening victory against Grace University, he dropped 25 points, grabbed four boards, and dished three assists. His performance was superb, but his impact against Central Christian was spectacular. Against the Tigers (who were receiving votes in the national poll at the time), Goodwin led the Threshers with 27 points, 13 of those coming from the free throw line. What was perhaps a Sports Center Top 10 worthy play, Goodwin took the ball up the court with five seconds left and the game tied, pulled up from almost 30 feet away from the basket, and drained the buzzer beating three pointer to grab the victory for the Threshers. Bethel starts 2-0 for the first time in over ten years thanks in part to Goodwin's heroics, who leads the conference in PPG, at 26.
The Threshers look to keep the momentum going this weekend when they participate in the McPherson Classic, hosted by McPherson College. They will play Bacone College (Oklahoma) on Friday, November 4th at 4:00 PM, and meet up with Haskell Indian Nations University on the 5th at 2:00 PM.
